You can create the bot by plugging it into its base and then connecting it to your home Wi Fi network. The Neato app will guide you through the initial configuration (linking the D4 to Wi-Fi and giving it a name, etc.). Once the D4 is fully charged, you'll be able to start cleaning.

Once you've got your D4 up and running it's possible to make use of the app to create an automatic schedule or manually begin a clean anytime you like. You can also utilize your voice to control it via Google Home or Amazon Alexa. And if you have an Apple Watch, you can even initiate cleaning by simply pressing the wrist.

Its exclusive dirt detection system warns you when areas require extra attention. Smart sensors ensure it stays away from dangerous obstacles and stairs. It also automatically recharges and continues to clean until the job is done. Its intelligent mapping and vSLAM technology lets it explore the entire floor of your home, and keep the track of the places it's been and which rooms are left to clean.

Its low profile helps it reach under furniture and other objects where dust, pet hair, and dirt often hide. It can also clean dirt from corners and edges unlike many robot vacuums. It is possible to schedule cleaning sessions using the iRobot App or your voice, via Alexa and Google Assistant.

The iRobot Roomba 985 is powered by lithium-ion batteries of the highest quality. They charge faster and last longer than other brands. This makes it able to avoid pet feces and wires much better than other robotic vacuums we've tested, including the EcovacsN8Pro, Roborock S6MaxV, and others.

It's also iRobot's strongest vacuum, capable of grabbing dirt with more granular debris and larger pet hair, unlike other mid-range models, such as the Roomba 960. This is due to the cleaner's wider counter-rotating brushes and a stronger motor with more suction power.

The Roomba 995 is also iRobot's lowest-cost vacuum, with recharge and resume, but it doesn't come with the auto-empty feature that the I6+ and I7 offer. It's not equipped with the iAdapt navigation 2.0 and the camera used by the I7 to track objects and avoid obstructions. It's not able to access features like in-app containment or save maps.

Another drawback is that the iRobot 995 does not come with mopping capabilities. This may not be an issue if you're just looking for a quality vacuum robot lidar, but it is an important disadvantage for anyone considering buying a hybrid robot.

The other iRobot that has automatic-empty is the Combo J7+, which can be used to mop and vacuum. It has the same navigation system as the I6+ or I7, however it does not have iAdapt 2.0. It's not able to save maps, and it does not have the features in-app for containment that the I7 and S9 offer. Roomba 960 by iRobot

It also does an excellent job of cleaning dirt embedded.

Although it isn't equipped with some of the latest features like map-saving and selective room cleaning however, its navigation is superior to most other robots. It also has a larger dirt bin than the 690.
